************* MP#3 Rough Demos:Blues Further On Up The Road [demo vocal only] Further On Up The Road 2["real" vocal, + lead solo, alt. rythm track] This newer version of "Road" still has some distortion in the vocal and guitar tracks- I need to remix to eliminate, hopefully without losing too much overall volume. Rough Demo: Noir/ Death Metal A Day in the Sun [Song For Cho] 6 mins. 44 secs [Shacklock/Whiting. Copyright Carlin Music Inc.] 2008 Lyrics + Arr. copyright 2008 Fake-Eye D . [ compressed mp3 file, best listened to on headphones- the bass part is weak and needs to be re-done/ re-mixed] A DAY IN THE SUN/SONG FOR CHO - COMMENTS "A Day in the Sun" is my own "'evvy metal" rewrite/ remake of "The Runaways" from the first Babe Ruth LP, for which I wrote the original lyrics]. NEW LYRICS /ARRANGEMENT: The new lyrics are in a noir/death metal vein, and their subject/ inspiration is the Virginia Tech. mass murderer, Seung-Hui Cho , and the fictional works of Andrew Vachss, who in my opinion is one the greatest modern american writers, bar none. I have always been disatisfied with the original recording [ sorry Mr Shacklock!]. I felt that the original work, a great theme/melody, although beautifully performed, arranged and orchestrated, was simply way too "soft" , and the main theme , although beautiful, was overlong in its closing coda. and my lyrics didn't help either! So I therefor decided to rewrite my lyrics and do a new arrangement, with a new time signature. Although the recording quality* is way inferior to the Abbey Road studio 2 recorded original, I am far happier with the results presented here. I think the overall re-arrangement of the original [i.e. what I call the new" frame"] is most important, and works well. P.S. I may do another arrangement , tweaking the lyrics and turning it nto a sort of Gary Moore "Still Got the Blues for You" jilted/angry lover type blues ballad, we shall see.
* Recorded / mixed on a Mac PowerPCG4 running OSX 10.3.9, using Apple's "GarageBand" version 2, using only the internal computer mike to live record all tracks except the drums , which is a pre-recorded GarageBand" "loop" track.] The style here, "metal", is not something I aspire to as a performer, I'm pretty much straight jazz/blues a la BB King, Bobby Bland etc., but as a songwriter I felt the original just begged for a "evvy metal" type arrangement [think Metallica].
