N.B.This is an early, "bare bones" version. I now sing it in a different key so that I can really "belt out" the chorus which is a little "wimpy" in this version -however this recording gives a rough idea]

1] It's taken years to understand this feeling,
That's been building up on me,
But I think that now I finally know the score,
I tried everything I could,
Often felt I held the key,
But now I realize I was never really sure.
I tried smoke, I tried drink,
Until my eyelids wouldn't blink,
But it only made me think I still don't understand.

But now I'm choking on lost time,
It's coming to the chorus line,
I'm gonna sing it a couple of times...

I... I gonna live free and die,
I... I gonna live free and die.

2] You might say I must be stupid,
And that the penny never dropped,
And I could not see the house for all the bricks.
Preoccupied with pleasure ,
Until my will was somehow stopped,
And from 17 through 44 ,
Forgetting did the trick.
I tried work and I tried play,
I didn't need the time of day,
I never dreamed you'd hear me say
I still don't understand,

But now I'm choking on lost time,
It's coming to the chorus line,
I'm gonna sing it a couple of times...

I... I gonna live free and die,
I... I gonna live free and die.

3] But now I see ahead
What I must do,
To love the life I live,
It's getting clearer
As I face each coming day.
There's no time like the present one
To give all I can give,
I got to fill my heart and soul up day by day,
And now I think I know the way,
There's no more I got to say,
You just don't get it on a tray
This I understand,

I got to lose so I can win,
I got to love through thick and thin,
But you will always hear me sing..

I... I gonna live free and die,
I... I gonna live free and die.
